A retail Christmas nightmare!

If you have ever tried to wrap gifts in a retail store during the Christmas season, then you know that even your dreams can be invaded by Scotch tape…this presentation put the product in a different light and almost made it look like stars. Found at this year’s Tendence Fair in Frankfurt, Germany. Today we have less than 6 months to Christmas…

Denmark’s coolest advertisements pillar

This cool car covered with grass works as awareness advertisement for Artville - The Worlds largest art fair – for artist running September 5th-7th 2008 in Copenhagen.

If the commercial media looks like this, I can’t wait to see the artists work at the fair.

Earth phone

At the 21st Century Museum in Kanazawa, Japan they have installed these underground phones for those not interested in talking face to face. If you are not in the area, then you can visit it online at Kanazawa21. These days they have a stunning exhibition of Ron Mueck if you are quick getting there. Man in Boat was a personal favorite.

Photographer Karl Blossfeldt

Maybe you already know his work. If not, I like to show you some of his sublime photos. He usually placed the subjects of his photographs against white or grey cardboard. The light came only from windows, to make a diffused light and to created volume of the objects. It is a very delight way to tell a story about form.

Jewelry box

I spotted this exhibit of jewelry and even though I liked the jewelry, I fell in love with the way they were displayed. Very cool.

Fun mosaic

Who wouldn’t like some extra color in their bathroom - or somewhere else in their home? A flying carpet or a pretty lady. These mosaics are spotted at a Sicis showroom in Soho, New York.

Fun wall decoration

Each little face has been hand painted and colored in the fitting rooms in Barney’s in Chevy Chase. Besides that they all have their own little comment. Sylvia needs a life, Miki likes to speed up her car, Quimby loves popsocks, June hates the ocean, Janet sings badly, Felicity was attacked by dogs etc.

Hang it high!

Mega installations realized using objects by Italians Arnolfo di Cambio. I liked the shadows of the installation more than the installation itself. And the man in orange was an extra bonus for the whole experience. Milan again…

Fusion of cultures

A skeletal whale made of plastic lawn chairs, a series of aboriginal masks sewn together from disassembled Nike Air Jordan basketball shoes and totems made of golf bags. Amazing sculptures by Canadian artist Brian Jungen. First it makes you smile but then it leads to a deeper analysis of the context. Born to a Swiss-Canadian father and First Nations mother and raised in the Dane-zaa nation, his art explore the elements of an hybrid cultural identity and the complex exchanges of goods and ideas in a globalized world…
